Libraries and people with disabilities.
Library resources—Research.
Program learning outcomes: 2. Critique and synthesize research and identify appropriate research methodologies to solve problems in the field.
5. Identify needs and connect individuals and communities with information that engages and empowers them.
This mock research proposal demonstrates my skills in the location, critical reading, and synthesis of information resources; my clear, concise writing style; and my sensitivity to the information needs of a diverse population. The proposal meets PLO 2 by demonstrating a deep understanding of both existing academic research in the field of library science, and of applicable current research methods. The paper further meets PLO 5 by identifying a clear set of needs as identified by the autistic community and by exploring strategies to address these needs in the library context.

By addressing the needs of a minority population, this project addresses such core librarianship values as access, diversity, and the public good. The paper further addresses behavioral competencies for cataloging and metadata professions by exercising strong written communication, recognizing and prioritizing diverse user needs, and advocating for the assessment and evaluation of library services.
