Title: Information experiences of parents of children with special needs: A review of the literature.
Created: August, 2017
Course number: LIS 60030 People in the Information Ecology.
Subjects: Parents of children with disabilities—Information resources--Research.
Information behavior—Research.
Library science—Methodology.
Program learning outcomes: 2. Critique and synthesize research and identify appropriate research methodologies to solve problems in the field.
5. Identify needs and connect individuals and communities with information that engages and empowers them.
In a similar vein to my research proposal, this literature survey highlights my deep understanding of the location, critical reading, and synthesis of current academic research; my lucid writing style; and my concern for the information needs of underrepresented populations. This survey further demonstrates my aptitude for deep analysis and creative problem-solving.

This project meets PLO 2 by synthesizing data from a broad range of academic research studies and engaging in close examination of their respective models, approaches, and methodologies. It further meets PLO 5 by examining the information needs of a specific user group and exploring possibilities for engaging the population in the development and utilization of applicable information resources.

In its discussion of possibilities for engagement and empowerment of the user base, this project addresses such core librarianship values as access, lifelong learning, and the public good. It further meets behavioral competencies for cataloging and metadata professions through its public service orientation, utilization of problem-solving strategies, and its recognition of diverse cultures and populations.
